Transportation survey results

In 2006, the AAA Association conducted a nationwide survey of members (including Colorado members). It examined public opinion on transportation issues.

In an effort to get an even broader base of member feedback, AAA Colorado repeated some of the survey's questions in the March/April EnCompass and at www.aaa.com/safety.

How did the results of this AAA Colorado informal survey compare to the AAA Association's nationwide, statistically valid results?

The answer is in the accompanying chart. Numerous AAA Colorado respodents also added comments:

“Our transportation system needs light rail, not more roads. Encourage travel by mass transportation.”
“All options to question three should be repugnant to all vehicle drivers and tax payers of all kinds.”
“Privatize the roads. It can be done.”
“Ban SUVs.”
“Re-prioritize from other budget expenditures.”

While respondents from both surveys believe that traffic congestion has increased over the last three years (67% and 76.1%), AND a majority believe more money is needed (70% and 68.8%), they are split on how to obtain that money. This illustrates why the potential solutions merit a more in-depth look by all involved.

AAA Colorado is monitoring the situation and is ready to support a reasonable, workable plan. AAA Colorado has offered its support to Governor Ritter's blue ribbon transportation panel; sits on the transportation committee of the Denver Chamber of Commerce; and is an active participant on the transportation committee of the AAA Association in Washington, D.C.

It is critical that AAA Colorado members make their opinions known. One way to do so is to write your state representative. Another way is to go online to fill out AAA Colorado's transportation survey at www.aaa.com/safety and add your comments to the growing number of those who want their opinions known.
