The Continental Divide Trail stretches 3,100 miles across the USA, from Canada to Mexico. Designated by Congress in 1978, the "King of Trails" will be the most significant trail system in the world when completed. Around 70% is currently usable.
Nearly 60 projects are planned along the trail this year in Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and New Mexico. Last year volunteers logged a total of 31,225 hours of labor. For most projects no experience is needed, and several are suitable for families with children over 10 years old.
"We're looking for people who enjoy activities like digging and moving rocks," said Susan Westhoff, director of volunteer programs for the Continental Divide Trail Alliance. "It's a great chance to meet new friends."
