When a member calls for roadside assistance, AAA Colorado's goal is to have a service vehicle there within 30 minutes. Usually this goal is met. However, some situations can affect arrival time.
Volume of calls: If the call center is dealing with an exceptionally high number of calls, it may take longer for a service vehicle to become available. Typically busy periods are during rush hour, at the beginning or end of a holiday weekend, and first thing on Monday morning.
Weather conditions: Extreme weather causes two issues for AAA service providers. First, it plays havoc on member vehicles, increasing the volume of calls received-not only during the storm, but afterwards when cars are stuck or won't start. Second, the service vehicles are tow trucks, not tanks; they have the same issues getting around in the snow as any other vehicle.
Type of service needed: Front-wheel, all-wheel, four-wheel, rear-wheel drives and RVs all require different service vehicles to tow. Some service trucks are equipped to handle battery replacement, while others are not. The type of service required can affect the type of vehicle which must respond to a call. AAA tries to make sure the appropriate one reaches the member.
Traffic: If a member's car has overheated or broken down while trapped in traffic, don't forget service vehicles have to battle that same traffic to get there.
Whatever the situation, AAA call takers and service providers understand the frustrations involved in a breakdown and will work with members to ensure the fastest possible solution.
