Denver festivals

As the holiday season begins, it's easy to forget that there are also plenty of events and festivals in early November. Here are four annual Denver festivals that will take place in upcoming weeks:

  • International Wine Festival, Nov. 1-4, presents wine and cuisine from around the world at the University of Denver's new School of Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Management. Events include seminars, cooking demonstrations and guided tastings. 303-664-5700, www.denverwinefest.com.
  • Mariachi Festival, Nov. 3, is a chance to see world-class mariachi and ballet folklorico groups, or attend workshops on both art forms. 303-463-1770, www.mariachivasquez.com.
  • Starz Film Festival, Nov. 8-18 at the Auraria Campus, has a lineup of new movies from dozens of filmmakers. 303-595-3456, www.denverfilm.org.
  • Colorado Ski & Snowboard Expo, Nov. 9-11 at the Colorado Convention Center, combines the state's biggest snowsports equipment sale with demonstrations, exhibits and entertainment. All 26 Colorado ski resorts will be represented, along with out-of-state and international resorts. There's a rail jam competition, indoor "learner slope" for kids and more. 303-228-8000.
