Getting more shore time on a cruise

The majority of cruise itineraries provide one day, at most, in each port—and most cruisers have experienced the regret of knowing that some nearby destination is just too far from port to explore in that time.

However, it's less well known that extended port stays, even leaving the ship in one port and re-embarking in another, can be arranged on many cruise lines to add a new dimension to your trip.

Extended port stays are sometimes 18 hours, or more often two full days. Before you book, ask if an extended port stay is possible on a cruise you're considering.
