Twenty Ninth Street in downtown Boulder is one of the state's newest retail districts. You'll easily fill a day with shopping, lunch or dinner and a movie. Anchored by Macy's and a 16-theater complex, with a dozen restaurants and some exclusive shops, this outdoor mall is worth checking out. 303-449-1189.

Stores can be a window into the essence of a community, and in Montrose that means exploring the town's many antiques shops. The town has created the Montrose Antique Trail, a guide to where to find everything from dainty teacups to vintage furniture. Pick up a map at the visitors center. 870-252-0505 or 800-873-0244.
