Smoking policies on cruise ships are important to smokers and non-smokers alike.
Most mainstream cruise lines allow smoking in designated areas only, and prohibit it in enclosed public spaces such as theatres. Dining rooms are almost always smoke-free-bars and lounges onboard have varying policies.
As with land-based hotels, many ships offer a choice of "smoking" or "non-smoking" accommodations. Lines that permit smoking in at least some of their staterooms include Celebrity, Cunard, Holland America, Norwegian and Princess. Smoking is usually allowed on a stateroom's private balcony—however, some lines prohibit this, among them Disney and Royal Caribbean.
If smoke-free or smoke-friendly areas are a priority, check with a travel agent for updates on your chosen cruise before booking.
