Snacks for flying

It's true: Most domestic airlines don't serve much in the way of food these days. If you need to pack a snack, consider these tips:

  • Dried fruit is less messy than fresh and has no core, peel or stem to dispose of.
  • Cheese, with or without crackers, is filling while not making too big a mess. Peanut butter crackers also work well.
  • Avoid salty snacks that will make you thirsty.
  • Gelatin or pudding cups are permitted through security as long as the container is three ounces or less. Remember to bring a plastic spoon.
