At the state finals on May 17, Geisen and Wood repaired 11 pre-bugged problems correctly on a Ford Escape in only 45 minutes. Their instructor Brad Wheaton coached the Colorado Springs students to Doherty High's third winning year in a row.

Geisen and Wood each won more than $30,000 in scholarships, including a full scholarship to the Lincoln College of Technology, a $4,000 scholarship from the Ford Asset program and a Snap-on tool set.

Second place winners were Salida High's team of Tori Anderson and Jeremy Gantzler, coached by Steven Best. Rifle High students Darren Mathews and Wayne Sayers won third place, coached by Karl Minter. More than $30,000 in combined scholarships to automotive technical colleges were awarded to students for their second and third place finishes.
