Auto Talk: Recycle your car batteries

AAA Colorado is again supporting Earth Day by sponsoring its annual battery recycling campaign. On Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23, used car batteries will be collected by a number of AAA battery service providers, auto repair facilities, towing contractors and Show Your Card & Save partners.

A typical car battery contains 21 pounds of lead, plastic and sulfuric acid. Nearly all (97%) of the materials in a car battery can be recycled and reused in new batteries. Improper disposal puts these toxic substances into landfills and groundwater instead.

Used automobile batteries will be accepted April 22–23, 2011 at the following locations. For the second year in a row, a battery pick-up service will also be offered for Denver metro area residents. Call 303-753-8800, ext. 8196, to schedule battery pick-up from your home or business.
