Theft is no ‘joy ride’

In response to your request to “keep those letters coming,” I would first tell you that I think that EnCompass is very informative and high quality.

I have a comment concerning the article “47 Seconds” which includes meaningful tips to help prevent auto theft. I suggest that the lack of appropriate punishment for car thieves is a major cause of the high number of vehicles stolen. The media seems to view this as a minor crime, and the description of it as a “joy ride” certainly doesn’t help.

It seems to me that it would be in the best interest of AAA and the other insurance carriers to bring more pressure to ensure proper prosecution and punishment in these cases.

Good citizen

Recently, I lost my AAA card at Four Mile Park. To my amazement, a kind soul found it and turned it into AAA, who in turn sent it back to me. I want to say thank you to this individual who took time out of their day to not only pick up the card but take it to a AAA office. Sometimes the smallest gestures have the biggest impact. Thank you for your kindness.

Your Roadside Assistance stories

On Dec. 23, 2010, I got stuck in the snow on Old La Veta Pass due to my own poor judgment. Your dispatchers were great, and Daddy’s Pride Towing of Walsenberg went above and beyond. Frankie Gilbert, the owner, and his associate, Karl, trudged on foot for two miles in deep snow to get to me. Thanks for having such a can-do culture!

I have been an AAA member for 42 years and have used various services. Recently I had to get a jump start. Your technician arrived in less time than predicted, performed a battery test and then got my car started. He explained everything I asked him, without hesitation. It is good to deal with a young person who is so professional in his work and is also a gentleman.

As a reporter, I’m not only an AAA observer ... I’m also a client. I’ve used AAA twice for roadside emergencies and on both occasions, help arrived very quickly, and AAA followed up immediately to make sure the situation was resolved. Had to have my daughter’s car extricated from a snowy ditch today. AAA’s roadside assistance is the best!
